August is National Vaccination Awareness Month, an event designed to raise awareness about the importance of pet immunization.

Most animal owners understand the value of timely vaccinations and booster shots to help keep their furry companions safe from diseases such as rabies, heartworm, and distemper. But, it’s even more important to know what vaccines are needed and when to have them given.

By giving your pet the proper immunizations, you can prevent serious diseases, such as distemper, hepatitis, rabies, etc. Even worse, in addition to your pet contracting these diseases, there is a risk for some of these to be transferred from your pet to humans in the family. 

Every animal is different, however, there are “core vaccines” that every cat and dog should receive.
